Boucher-De la Bruère School

Bellerive,
Montreal,  2005

This East Montreal schoolyard was entirely covered in asphalt and had no greenery or play features. Through the Evergreen School Ground Greening program, we helped the school to mobilize and design a clear and inspiring project for a new yard.

After a detailed analysis of the site, its context and through meetings with the school community, the idea was brought forth to take advantage of the proximity of the St-Laurent river, the port and the Boucherville Islands. This theme came to articulate the project coherently while emphasizing the specificity of the location. Three zones were created: the port, corresponding to the more mineral playground for ball games closer to the school, the river, at the centre of the yard, represented by the mulch with wooden bridges, and the islands, at the back of the yard, corresponding to a greener and fresher zone including a boat play structure
