The redesign of the Biencourt street is part of the program for the implementation of pedestrian and shared use streets manage by the City of Montreal. For the Biencourt project, transitory measures were undertaken for two summers on the site, before a design competition started in 2017 in order to design a permanent space. Winner of the competition with the Collectif Escargo and co-designer of the project, Mousse coordinated the work of the different contributors.

All in subtlety and poetry, this project is inspired by the rich agricultural history of Ville-Émard and seeks to recreate the village core of yesteryear by offering a welcoming and engaging environment for the community. The security of users, their comfort and the beauty of the new space were at the heart of the concerns for this project.

The intervention implements a new warm and aesthetic setting. A new greenery made of diversified shapes and colours inspired by those found in agricultural landscapes was selected for the project. A water garden collects the site’s rainwater and a great number of robust plants attract insects and birds. Porch gliders, benches, tables and shelters welcome visitors who can, through different seasons, observe life, people and time.
