Children’s Oasis

Borough of Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie,
Montreal, in progress,  2023

Located in a former presbytery in the heart of Rosemont, the Children’s Oasis is where children aged 0 to 12 and their families, especially those in vulnerable situations, feel welcomed, listened to, and supported.

The project proposes a new friendly and lively layout to promote children’s expression, creativity, and imagination. We propose to create a design that encourages sensory exploration with materials and play equipment inspired by the space’s natural aspect.

At the entrance, planters invite educators to introduce children to gardening with tools kept under the stairs. Next, an open space with a raised wooden platform creates a quiet space where one can sit. A comfortable bench invites to take a break and observe the surrounding activities.

On the other side, a play area under the canopy lets children climb on the mounds, slide, balance on logs, and hide in the miniature forest. The wooden playhouse brings a creative play element to the space. And there, set against the forest, one can’t help but feel lost in the woods in the city’s heart.
