Play at the Library

Pierrefonds Library,
Montréal,  2020

Brought onto the team at first to develop a playful trail within the youth zone of the new Pierrefonds library, Mousse improved the project by linking it to other issues experienced by this audience: comfort and spatial orientation. The objective of this design was to make the children’s visits more amusing and enjoyable, but also to encourage them to visit the library and the world of books.

The project was conceived to insert itself into the existing space by proposing locations for reading, well-being and discovery for younger readers. To achieve this, four zones with different themes and purposes were designed through the existing shelving. Original and adaptable modules were installed on the ground while preserving an aesthetic continuity with the material in place and an adaptability to the changing needs of users.

The design was meticulously studied to adapt to children’s ergonomics and specific needs. The project also adds a touch of intimacy and warmth to the luminous and large library. Playhouses, carpets, clotheslines, armchairs, game tables, worktables and discovery tables welcome children and their families to better enjoy their visit.
