Bassin-à-Gravier Playground

Le Sud-Ouest borough,
Montreal,  2015

The Parc 3 Nord planning project sought to create a space drawing from the rich historical heritage of the site and to play an identity role in this Montreal neighbourhood undergoing redevelopment. The objectives of the project included the creation of friendly, versatile and sustainable spaces, a commemoration of the historical presence of the basin and the ecological management of rainwater.

For this project, Mousse Architecture de Paysage collaborated with civiliti for the design of the playgrounds which were installed on a great symbolic barge recalling the site’s history as a port area. This past is brought back through shapes and materials inspired by the old ships. Masts, decks, sails and shipmaster’s cabin are subtly alluded to with an original design that is well adapted for a use dedicated to families.

Mousse helped establish guidelines for the choice of playground installations, for their selection and implementation. We also designed the playground’s captain cabin specifically for this project. The cabin provides a unique touch and creates a playground where neighbourhood children can let their imaginations run free
